Teachers demonstrate an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, and the developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences.
The professional knowledge standard’s purpose is to ensure that students learn from teachers who are fully qualified in their positions. The goal is to develop a workforce of teachers who are experts in their subjects as well as in their knowledge of teaching strategies and understanding of cognitive development and learning. The objective is to maximize student success by providing teachers who employ effective teaching methods and have extensive knowledge of their content. Teachers can fulfill this standard by integrating knowledge from other academic disciplines, by understanding and appreciating cultural diversity and how experiences may be interpreted differently, and by demonstrating knowledge, skills, and linguistic structures of the target language and creating learning experiences that make these aspects of the subject matter meaningful to students.
One of the best ways to build learning experiences that engage students is to provide options (differentiation) and outlets for their creativity. In the two photos below, some students are working in cooperative groups while others complete an activity at the board.

The following photos are from a field trip we took that included visiting a French restaurant where students tried foods they’d never encountered before:
